Spurs host slumping Sixers at AT&T Center

12.16.2006

(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs go for their fourth straight win when they welcome the troubled Philadelphia 76ers tonight to the AT&T Center.

This is the first of two meetings between the squads this season. The Sixers are scheduled to host the Spurs on January 21, 2007 at the Wachovia Center.

Philadelphia has lost two straight and 18 of its last 19 at San Antonio. The Spurs have won three of the last four contests in this series.

San Antonio begins a three-game homestand this evening. On Thursday, Manu Ginobili had 24 points to lead San Antonio to a 103-77 victory over the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets at New Orleans Arena.

Tony Parker tallied 19 points in the win over the Hornets for the Spurs, who overcame an off night by All-Star Tim Duncan to win their third straight. Duncan had 11 points and nine rebounds in the win.

The Spurs, who will also host the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets on the homestand, are 8-3 at home this season.

Philadelphia is caught in a 10-game losing streak and suffered a 93-79 setback to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday at American Airlines Center.

Andre Iguodala led Philadelphia with 17 points and added five rebounds, while Samuel Dalembert and Willie Green each had 16 points. Dalembert also grabbed seven rebounds and Kyle Korver had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Philadelphia continued its longest losing streak since dropping 13 in a row during the 1996-97 season. The 76ers were without both guard Allen Iverson and forward Chris Webber. Iverson was inactive for his fifth straight game as the team continues to explore trade options for its star player, while Webber missed the game with a right ankle injury.

Webber is questionable for Saturday’s game against San Antonio.

The Sixers have dropped nine in a row on the road and are just 2-11 away from the Wachovia Center this season.
