Spurs try to get back on the winning track vs. Hornets

12.23.2006

(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs try to get back on the winning track when they visit the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets tonight at the Ford Center.

This is the second meeting of the season between the squads. On December 14th, Manu Ginobili had 24 points to lead San Antonio to a convincing 103-77 victory over the Hornets at New Orleans Arena.

San Antonio has won seven of its last eight at the Hornets. The Spurs have captured four in a row and eight of the last nine contests in this series.

The Spurs will try and rebound from a bad loss. On Friday, Yao Ming scored 22 points and pulled down seven boards as the Houston Rockets crushed the Spurs, 97-78, at the AT&T Center.

Manu Ginobili scored 23 points in the loss to Houston for the Spurs, who had a five-game winning streak halted. Tony Parker scored 21 points and Tim Duncan, who was just 4-for-13 from the floor, scored 14 points and grabbed 11 boards in defeat.

San Antonio is 10-3 on the road this season. After tonight’s contest the Spurs return home for a three-game homestand. They will host Milwaukee, Utah and Atlanta on the upcoming stand.

New Orleans/Oklahoma City wraps up a brief two-game homestand. On Friday, Desmond Mason scored the go-ahead bucket in overtime and posted 17 points and 12 rebounds, as the injury-riddled Hornets downed the Memphis Grizzlies, 100-97, at the Ford Center.

Marc Jackson posted 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Memphis for the Hornets, who stopped a four-game losing streak and were without three key contributors in Peja Stojakovic, Bobby Jackson and David West.

Stojakovic (lower back) is expected to miss at least two months, and David West (right forearm/elbow) is out indefinitely. Jackson has a cracked left rib and has not played since November 28th.

The Hornets are 6-5 as the host this season. They are scheduled to visit Seattle on Tuesday and Portland on Wednesday.
