Stoudemire expected to miss four weeks

12.8.2003

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns will be without forward Amare Stoudemire for the next four weeks with a third-degree sprain of his left ankle.

Stoudemire, who has been placed on the injured list, suffered the injury in the second quarter of Friday’s 29-point come-from-behind win over the Boston Celtics. He went to the floor after landing on Paul Pierce’s foot under the Suns’ basket, while attempting to grab a rebound.

X-rays taken after the game were negative, but Stoudemire returned to Phoenix for an MRI on Sunday. No fracture was revealed, but the NBA’s reigning Rookie of the year was fitted with a walking support boot.

Stoudemire is averaging 15.1 points, while grabbing 8.8 boards a contest.

Phoenix will continue its four-game road trip in Orlando on Tuesday, as the Magic try and avoid their 20th consecutive loss.
