Suns sign Quentin Richardson to offer sheet

07.14.2004

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns signed Los Angeles Clippers restricted free agent guard Quentin Richardson to a lucrative offer sheet on Wednesday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but earlier reports stated that the deal is for six years and worth between $48 million and $50 million.

Originally selected out of DePaul by the Clippers in the first round (18th overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft, Richardson is coming off the best season of his four-year career. He played in 65 games for LA in 2003-04 and averaged career-highs in points (17.2 ppg) and rebounds (6.4 rpg).

Richardson has participated in 281 games during his career and owns averages of 12 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists. The 24-year-old has not yet played in the postseason during his NBA career.

The Clippers have 15 days to match the offer. LA is still waiting on a decision from unrestricted free agent All-Star guard Kobe Bryant as to where he will sign.

The Denver Nuggets were also reported to have had an interest in signing Richardson.
