SuperSonics ready for season to end

(Basketball News) - The Seattle SuperSonics are wrapping up a disappointing season. They are 31-46 and sit in the cellar of the Northwest Division, one- half game behind the fourth place Portland Trail Blazers.

Seattle last appeared in the postseason in 2004-05 when it captured the Northwest Division during the regular season, and lost in the Western Conference semifinals in six games to the San Antonio Spurs, who went on to win the championship that season.

All-Star guard Ray Allen has not played since March 18th. He is sidelined for the remainder of the season, as he waits to have surgery on his left ankle. The Connecticut product averaged a team-high 26.4 points in 55 games this season for Seattle.

The playoff-bound Houston Rockets play the middle contest of a three-game road trip, as they visit the SuperSonics on Monday at KeyArena. Houston is 2-0 against the SuperSonics this season. The Rockets won a pair of contests over Seattle at the Toyota Center, and have won eight of the last nine contests in the series.

The Rockets have won four of their last five at Seattle.

Seattle returns home after a solid victory on the road. Rashard Lewis registered 35 points and helped lead the SuperSonics to an improbable come from behind 106-103 victory over the Northwest Division champion Utah Jazz at the EnergySolutions Arena.

Lewis also collected a team-high eight rebounds for Seattle, which snapped a four-game skid. Earl Watson added 15 points and nine assists for the SuperSonicsSonics, while Nick Collison netted 14 points in the victory.

The SuperSonics are 20-19 at home this season. After Monday’s contest, they will embark on a three-game road trip before wrapping up the season against the Dallas Mavericks on April 18th at KeyArena. Seattle will visit Phoenix, Portland and the Lakers on the upcoming swing.

Lewis, who missed significant time this season because of injuries, is averaging 22.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 55 games this season. He has posted 24.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in his last 10 outings.
