T’wolves host Hornets at Target Center

11.18.2006

(Basketball News) - The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets attempt to continue their impressive start to the new season, as they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at the Target Center.

New Orleans/Oklahoma City has won two in a row. On Wednesday, rookie Hilton Armstrong hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line with just three seconds remaining to lift the Hornets over the Detroit Pistons, 100-99, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

With the game tied, Armstrong was fouled by Richard Hamilton before converting from the line. He then missed his second free throw, but grabbed his own rebound to secure the win.

Armstrong finished with 17 points and nine rebounds in place of center Tyson Chandler, who missed the game with a mild concussion. 2005-06 Rookie of the Year Chris Paul paced the Hornets with 20 points and 13 assists in the victory.

The Hornets are 3-3 on the road this season. They return home on Tuesday to host Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat.

Minnesota has lost five of its last six games, including Friday’s 92-76 setback against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena.

Kevin Garnett contributed 14 points and 11 boards but struggled from the floor, missing his first seven shots and finishing just 5-for-17. Rookie Craig Smith chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, while Mike James netted 11 points.

The Hornets went 2-1 against the Timberwolves last season, but Minnesota has won eight of the previous 10 encounters.

The Hornets have dropped seven of their last 10 games at Minnesota.
