Timberwolves feast on subpar Sixers

12.3.2006

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Ricky Davis poured in 22 points and Kevin Garnett had 15 points and 14 rebounds as Minnesota ended a three-game skid with a 95-84 victory over the hapless Philadelphia 76ers.

Mike James scored 20 points to go along with six assists for the Timberwolves, who won despite committing a season-high 24 turnovers.

Allen Iverson shot just 6-of-19 from the field, but still managed to score 26 points and dish out seven assists for the woeful Sixers, who have dropped four in a row and eight of their last nine games.

Samuel Dalembert scored 15 points and pulled down nine boards for Philadelphia, while Andre Iguodala added 12 points and five assists.

Trailing 47-44 at halftime, the Sixers came out strong to start the second half and held the lead for most of the third quarter.

However, Davis’ jumper with under a minute to play sparked a 9-0 Timberwolves run that bridged the third and fourth quarters to give Minnesota control. Davis’ trey less than a minute into the final period capped the spurt, giving the Timberwolves a 73-65 advantage.

Two Kevin Ollie free throws and a Dalembert jumper brought Philadelphia within four, but James nailed a three pointer that ignited an 11-4 spurt that effectively put the game out of reach.

James connected on another trey to cap the run with 1:07 remaining as the Sixers got no closer than eight the rest of the way.

Minnesota led 21-20 after the opening 12 minutes and outscored the Sixers by two in the second quarter, taking a three-point advantage into the locker room.
