Timberwolves trying to move up

(Basketball News) - The Minnesota Timberwolves are starting to play better, and the results are showing up in the standings. They own a 10-9 record and are in third place in the Northwest Division, five games behind first-place Utah.

The Timberwolves try to extend their winning streak to five games when they visit the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday at the AT&T Center. Minnesota has lost five straight after winning its last two at San Antonio. The Spurs have won four in a row and six of the last seven contests in this series.

Minnesota plays the middle contest of a three-game road trip against the Spurs. Kevin Garnett posted 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Timberwolves over the Chicago Bulls, 91-81, on Saturday at the United Center.

Ricky Davis and Mike James both scored 15 points in the win over Chicago for the Timberwolves, who have won four in a row and seven of their last 10 contests. Marko Jaric contributed 12 points and seven boards, while Trenton Hassell and Mark Blount both scored 11 points.

The Timberwolves are 6-3 at home this season. They will visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday at the Bradley Center. The teams will meet for the second and final time on December 22nd at the Target Center. Minnesota has won nine of its last 12 at Milwaukee.

Garnett leads the team in scoring (21.6 ppg) and rebounding (12.0 rpg), while Davis has handed out a club-high 4.6 assists per game.

Minnesota is 5-0 when it scores more than 100 points this season.
