Toronto Raptors Team Report - January 22 01.22.2004
|
(Basketball News) - The Toronto Raptors fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves, 108-97, on Wednesday at Air Canada Centre.
Vince Carter missed his third straight game for Toronto with a right quadriceps injury, as the Raptors dropped their third straight game despite receiving 22 points from Donyell Marshall. Milt Palacio came off the injured list earlier in the day and added a season-high 18 points in the losing effort.
"When you let someone shoot 56 percent in your building, you’re not going to win too many games," Raptors head coach Kevin O’Neill said.
The game was tied at 84-84 midway through the final period. But back-to-back three-pointers by Sam Cassell and Troy Hudson put the Timberwolves up six with just over five minutes remaining, and that was just the beginning of an 8-0 run capped by Kevin Garnett’s two free throws.
Minnesota’s lead soon reached double digits at 96-86 with 2:18 remaining and the Raptors never threatened again.
Jalen Rose had 17 points and rookie Chris Bosh had 15 in the losing effort.
Palacio, who had a wrist injury, was activated from the injured list while Michael Curry was placed on the IL with bone chips in his right elbow. He is expected to undergo surgery next week and will be sidelined for an indefinite period of time.
The Raptors are off until Friday when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks.
