Utah picks up options on two players

11.1.2004

Salt Lake City, UT (Basketball News) - The Utah Jazz picked up the contract options on Raul Lopez and Curtis Borchardt for the 2005-06 season.

Both players are now prevented from becoming unrestricted free agents next summer and under terms of the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, Lopez will receive almost a 75 percent raise and will earn almost $1.8 million next season. Borchardt’s pay will also climb to almost $2 million.

Lopez, a guard, averaged 7.0 points and 3.7 assists last year in his rookie campaign. Lopez, who played in all 82 games, was drafted with the 24th overall pick in the 2001 draft.

Borchardt appeared in just 16 contests last campaign due to broken bones in his foot and wrist. The center from Stanford averaged only 3.6 points and grabbed 3.4 boards per game in 2003-04.
