Warriors try to break through against Spurs

The Spurs have won three straight and 19 of the last 20 meetings with the Warriors. Golden State has struggled mightily on the road against the Spurs, losing in its last 11 trips to San Antonio.

The Warriors haven’t won in San Antonio since a victory at the Alamodome on February 14, 1997.

Golden State is in the midst of a two-game losing streak, including a 106-104 setback in Sacramento on Sunday. Peja Stojakovic poured in 33 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Kings.

Jason Richardson dropped 31 points to lead the Warriors and sparked a late- game comeback that fell just short in the final minute. Cliff Robinson added 16 points and Mike Dunleavy chipped in 14 for Golden State, which has lost 15 straight games to the Kings.

Richardson had a chance to give Golden State the lead in the closing seconds, but missed a driving layup with five ticks left. Brad Miller grabbed the rebound and Stojakovic iced the game with a pair of free throws at the other end.

Warriors guard Nick Van Exel missed the loss to the Kings with a sore left knee and is questionable for tonight’s contest.

The Spurs are glad to be home after going 2-1 on a brief three-game East coast swing, which ended Saturday with a 95-71 victory in Washington, DC.

Malik Rose scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win over the Wizards, while Tim Duncan posted 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Duncan has recorded a double-double in seven of his eight games this season.

The Warriors are still looking for their first road win of the season, as they are 0-2 away from Oakland this year. Golden State has also struggled against the West this season, going 1-5 against conference foes.

San Antonio holds a 4-2 record at SBC Arena this season, but has won just two of six games against conference opponents.
