(Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards were blown out by the Philadelphia 76ers, 113-88, on Wednesday at the Wachovia Center.
Juan Dixon paced Washington with 21 points. Jerry Stackhouse chipped in 15 points and Brendan Haywood had 11 for the Wizards, who had a two-game winning streak halted.
Washington played without guard Larry Hughes, who is expected to miss 4- to-6 weeks with a fractured capitate bone in his left wrist.
The 76ers used a 15-2 burst, keyed by six points from Allen Iverson, to take a 21-10 lead with 4:22 left in the first quarter.
After the Wizards scored the next seven points to pull within four, Iverson hit a jumper to ignite an 8-2 run that gave Philadelphia a 29-19 advantage early in the second period.
The 76ers’ lead reached 13 at 38-25 on a basket by Aaron McKie with 7:56 remaining in the quarter.
Washington was able to cut the deficit to 43-35 on a bucket by Stackhouse, but Philadelphia countered with a 13-6 run, sparked by John Salmons’ three- pointer, to grab a 56-41 advantage at the intermission.
Philadelphia continued to pour it on in the third quarter. Eric Snow’s driving layup with 7:45 left in the period culminated a 12-5 spurt and staked the 76ers to a 68-46 lead.
The 76ers led 85-65 after 36 minutes and increased the margin to as many as 32 points on several occasions in the fourth quarter, the last time at 113-81 on a layup by Salmons with 1:16 remaining.
The Wizards are off until after the All-Star break. Washington plays on Tuesday at Houston against Yao Ming and the Rockets.
