Washington Wizards Team Report - February 29

(Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards had their two-game winning streak stopped on Saturday, as they found themselves on the wrong end of a 122-110 decision against the Los Angeles Lakers at the MCI Center.

Gilbert Arenas netted a game-high 35 points for Washington and buried a career-high 8-of-11 three-pointers. Arenas, who tied Rex Chapman’s franchise- record for threes in a game, also had nine rebounds and four assists for the Wizards, who fell for the sixth time in their last eight games.

Jerry Stackhouse had 20 points and Kwame Brown chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, as the Wizards failed for the fifth time this season to win three games in a row.

Their last three-game winning streak was in January 2003..

After the game, Stackhouse announced that he had played his last game of the season because of continued problems stemming from the right knee surgery that sidelined him for the first 45 games of the season.

Stackhouse, who signed a two-year, $18 million extension this summer, started all 12 games he played in since his return on February 1.

The Wizards will return to action on Monday when they continue their three- game homestand against the New Orleans Hornets. Washington has lost five of seven and seven of its last 10 games at home and is 12-17 in its gym this season.

The Wizards have already lost twice this season to the Hornets, but could have the advantage tonight, as the home team in this series has won eight straight and 10 of the last 11 meetings
