Washington Wizards Team Report - March 8 03.8.2004

(Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards dropped their second straight game on Sunday with a 99-86 setback to the New York Knicks at the MCI Center.
Gilbert Arenas netted a game-high 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting for Washington, which has dropped two straight contests. Juan Dixon contributed 25 points as he was the only other Wizard to score in double-digits.
The Wizards proved pesky and following Michael Sweetney’s jumper they used a 10-3 run, ending on Jared Jeffries free throw, to make it a 91-82 game with 4:40 remaining in the contest.
That was as close as Washington would get the rest of the way. New York closed out the game outscoring the Wizards 8-4 for the final margin, en route to its fourth straight win over Washington.
Even though Washington is 21 games under .500 (20-41), it is still only six games back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Arenas has scored 21 or more points in six straight contests and has averaged 28.7 points in that span.
Washington will return to action on Tuesday against the Denver Nuggets.
