(Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards suffered a 112-105 loss Tuesday at the MCI Center to the injury-plagued Philadelphia 76ers.
Gilbert Arenas scored a season-high 36 points with 10 assists for the Wizards, who have lost four of their last six games. Larry Hughes contributed a season- high 23 points in a losing effort.
The Sixers took a slim 82-80 lead into the final quarter, but began to pull away midway through the frame. Allen Iverson scored six straight points to increase the Sixers’ lead to 98-90, sinking two free throws with 5:35 left for the eight-point advantage. Samuel Dalembert added a pair from the line with 4:22 to go to give Philadelphia a 10-point lead.
Washington, however, stormed back with seven straight points. Arenas hit his fifth three-pointer of the contest with 2:46 remaining to cap the run and cut the Sixers’ lead to 100-97.
Iverson fed Dalembert for a basket inside and Marc Jackson hit a pair of free throws with 1:17 remaining to put the Sixers up, 104-99. After a pair of misses by the Wizards, Dalembert threw down a one-handed dunk off a feed from Eric Snow to increase the Philadelphia lead to 106-99 with 41 seconds left and the Sixers held on for the seven-point victory.
The Wizards are off until Friday when they travel to Miami to meet the Heat.
