Webber expected to debut for Pistons against Jazz

01.17.2007

(Basketball News) - Chris Webber is expected to make his Detroit Pistons debut this evening when the Utah Jazz pay a visit to The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Webber had his contract bought out by the Philadelphia 76ers last week and was eventually waived. He shopped around a bit before officially signing a deal with his hometown Pistons on Tuesday. He is expected to come off the bench against the Jazz.

A five-time All-Star, Webber has been limited to just 18 games this season because of right ankle and foot injuries. He is averaging 11 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game this year.

In his career, Webber holds averages of 21.4 points, 10 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 779 games, all but two of those starts.

The Pistons have lost three of their last four games and suffered a 94-90 overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday at The Palace. Richard Hamilton had 32 points and Antonio McDyess contributed 16 points and seven rebounds for the Pistons, who are 1-1 on a three-game homestand and 10-7 as the host this season.

Detroit is 1 1/2 games behind Cleveland for the lead in the Central standings.

Utah will try to snap a four-game losing streak this evening when they continue a four-game road trip. The Jazz lost the opener of the trek by a 114-111 score to the Washington Wizards on Monday at the Verizon Center.

Gilbert Arenas buried the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to lead the Wizards, while former Piston Mehmet Okur dropped in a career-high 38 points for the reeling Jazz, who are 10-10 on the road this season and three games ahead of Minnesota for the top spot in the Northwest Division.

The Jazz will also visit Toronto and Chicago on the trip.

Utah defeated Detroit, 103-101, on November 6 this season at Energy Solutions Arena, and has won three straight and five of the last six meetings.

The Jazz have won four of seven and five of their last nine trips to Motown.
