Wilkens adds to his new staff

01.16.2004

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Lenny Wilkens announced Friday the addition of Mark Aguirre and Dick Helm to his coaching staff in New York.

Both men will be on the bench tonight when the Knicks host Seattle, along with holdovers Herb Williams and Michael Malone.

It will be Wilkens’ first game at the helm in New York since he took over for Don Chaney, who was fired prior to Wednesday’s game against Orlando.

Aguirre has spent the past two years with the Indiana Pacers, last year as an assistant coach under current Knicks president of basketball operations Isiah Thomas.

A three-time NBA All-Star as a player, Aguirre spent 13 years in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons and was a key member of the Pistons NBA Championship team in 1989 and 1990.

Helm has over 40 years of coaching and scouting experience. He has previously worked with Wilkens in Seattle, Cleveland, Atlanta and Toronto and also worked on the scouting staff of the Miami Heat from 1998-2002.
