"Lonny has a great work ethic," said president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld. "He is a young player who has gained valuable playing experience and adds nice depth to our front court."
Baxter was drafted in the second round, 44th overall, of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 4.8 points and 3.0 rebounds in his rookie season with the Bulls, and is averaging 4.2 points and 3.1 rebounds so far this season with the Bulls and the Raptors.
Baxter joins former Maryland teammates Juan Dixon and Steve Blake on the Wizards with whom he helped lead the Terrapins to the 2002 NCAA Basketball Championship.
