Boris Diaw Biography

Boris Diaw

Boris Diaw bio

His father, Issa Diaw is a lawyer on the Dakar bar. Boris grew up with his mother, Elizabeth Riffiod, and his brother Martin in Mont de Marsan, where his mom is playing in second division while taking care of the basketball programs for kids. When a full time tenure as a PE and sport sociology teacher opens up at the University of Bordeaux, Elizabeth takes her chance and decides to move the entire family to Pessac, on the university campus next to the Saige Park This is time when Boris and Martin set foot for the time on the playgrounds in Talence and Pessac. They were tryin the game when they met Vincent Mbassi, a well known figure from the locals who is passionate about the game and often devotes his free time to the youngsters in the area. Years go by and the kids are growing up and Boris changes club.

After a first player card at the age in Talence, he moves to Pessac to follow Martin, then the JSA Bordeaux to play at a better level.

On the side, Boris joins the CERHN in Mont de Marsan in order to mix sports and schooling. He keeps on coming to the playground to have some fun with his brother and often brings his friends. While he has grown up a lot (8 inches in a year), now plays for the 14 years old national team, he joins the CREPS in Toulouse. His daily training regimen and his experience bring him many attentions and is scouted by Lucien Legrand, who asks him to join the team at the prestigious INSEP (National Sports Institute in Paris).

He thus joins the INSEP in 1999. There he meets Tony Parker and Ronny Turiaf and the three bound with a strong friendship. The minutes spent on the court during a game are golden and Boris proves excellent; pro clubs in France are starting to scout him as well as the most prestigious colleges and universities in the US. After successfully graduating from high school and following his title of European Junior champion with a French national team that was led by Pierre Vincent, Boris begins his career in Pau.

The confidence of the coach, Claude Bergeaud and the president, Pierre Seillant, both wiling to trust the youngster enabled Boris to win the French league championship in his rookie year. He spends three years in Pau, working on his game at the highest level in Europe, whether playing in the Euroligue, or with the national team. In 2002, he wins the bronze medal as the team captain of the French national team under 20 in Lithuania. 2003 will be fantastic as Boris wins every possible title in France and is elected as the player of the year by the players themselves. Following that season, Boris finally decides to enter the NBA draft where he is selected at number 21 by the Atlanta Hawks. In 2003 he also becomes a key player in the French national team.

His first two seasons in the NBA are very encouraging as he often enters the starting five. In the summer of 2005, Boris is traded to the Suns in Phoenix, the best team from the 2004-2005 regular season, team that was defeated in the Western Conference Final by Tony Parkers San Antonio Spurs. In Phoenix, Boris is now playing with the MVP from the 2004-2005 season, Steve Nash
