Channing was a starter for the University of Arizona basketball team all four years. He scored 1,789 points, grabbed 975 rebounds, led the team in block shots including being in the top five conference-wide. He also shot 83 per cent from the free throw line and 55 per cent from the field.

For a big man, he is mobile, runs the floor well, has a soft touch and can easily shoot 15-18 foot jumpers as well as play with his back to the basket using either hand. Channing has never missed a game in college because of injury.

In 2005, he received Arizona’s Male Athletic Award, PAC-10 Sportsmanship Award and Pac-10 Medal including All Pac-10 Conference First Team, Fiesta Bowl Tournament MVP and Preseason Playboy All-American.

Channing has two parents, Karen and Thomas Frye. He also has one brother, Logan Frye. Channing’s pet dog is Sees, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever. During some of Channing’s spare time, he plans on visiting children in the hospital as well as supporting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and other charities.

College Days

2004-05 (Senior): Received the University of Arizona’s Sapphire Award, which is given to the outstanding senior male student-athlete ... Named 2004-05 male winner of the Pacific-10 Conference Sportsmanship Award, which is given to the league student-athlete (covering all sports) who best exemplifies the characteristics of good sportsmanship and is voted by the Pac-10 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee ... Named Arizona’s co-Most Valuable Player and co-captain in a vote by his teammates... Named to the NCAA all-Chicago Regional team after averaging 19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks, while shooting 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the floor in the two games ... A Basketball Times second team All-American ... Named to the all-Pac-10 Tournament team after averaging 17.7 points and 5.7 rebounds to go with a 76.7 (23-of-30) field goal percentage in the three games ... A first team all-Pac-10 selection ... Selected to the midseason Naismith Player of the Year Award watch list ... A finalist for the College Basketball Award of Excellence ... A 2004-05 Playboy preseason All-American... Ranks second in Arizona and Pac-10 history with 258 career blocked shots... Set a career high with 30 points on 13-of-15 shooting to go with five boards and three assists on 2/26 at Washington.

2003-04 (Junior): First team all-Pac-10 selection ... Named team co-captain by a vote of his teammates ... A third team Dick Vitale preseason All-America pick ... Included on both the John R. Wooden and Naismith preseason player of the year award lists ... Ranked third on the team in scoring (15.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg) ... Led the Pac-10 and ranked 26th nationally with 2.1 blocked shots per.

2002-03 (Sophomore): An honorable mention all-Pac-10 selection ... Team leader with 60 blocks (2nd in Pac-10) and a 56.9 FG percentage (3rd in Pac-10/29th nationally), and double-doubles (9) ... Named Arizona most improved player in a vote of his teammates.

Summer 2002: Averaged team-high totals of 19.2 points and 11.9 rebounds per game on Arizona’s 10-game tour of Australia ... Posted eight double-doubles on the tour, including three games with 15 or more boards ... Also led the team in FG percentage (.561), offensive rebounds (47) and blocked shots (27), while shooting 83.7 percent from the line ... Traveled to Turkey and Italy with NYC Hoops later that summer.

2001-02 (Freshman): A key contributor in 2001-02 who started 25 of 34 games ... Worked his way into the starting lineup by late December and stayed there for the rest of the season ... Selected to the Pac-10 all-Freshman team ... Team leader with 50 blocks and collected five blocks in a game three times this year ...Led the Pac-10 with a .595 FG percentage (.605 in Pac-10 play)... Named to the Fiesta Bowl Classic all-Tournament team.

High School: Rated as the No. 98 recruit in the nation by Hoop Scoop and the No. 13 center in the country by Fast Break Recruiting Service ... Another in the long line of Arizona prep standouts to enter the Wildcat program ... Led St. Mary’s High School to the 2001 Class 5A state championship with a 30-3 record ... Averaged 22.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 6.0 blocks and 3.0 assists per game as a senior ... St. Mary’s won the Desert Valley Conference title with a 10-0 record ... Named Player of the Year by the Arizona Republic ... Was the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year ... A fourth-team Parade All-America ... A McDonald’s All-America nominee ... As a junior, Frye averaged 15.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 9.0 blocks and 6.0 assists per game for coach David Lopez at St. Mary’s. He led the team to a 26-7 record in 2000, a berth in the Class 5A state tournament semifinals and a No. 19 national ranking by USA Today ... He was a Street & Smith’s High Honorable Mention All-America pick and an all-metro Phoenix selection ... He earned MVP honors at the Arizona Preps Fall Showcase and attended the Nike All-America camp ... A member of the St. Mary’s Lettermen’s Club and was very active in its community service program.
