Chris Paul bio

A native of Lewisville, North Carolina, Chris has quickly become one of the most talked about point guards in the National Basketball Association and is a favorite for the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award. The fourth overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft by the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, Paul has turned around a franchise that won just 18 games in the 2004-2005 season The Hornets will most likely double their win total from last season and are sitting at 31 wins as of February 26, 2006. Chris began his rise to the NBA on the courts of West Forsyth High School where he led the Titans to the state Class 4-A Eastern Regional Final and a record of 27-3 in 2003, his senior year. He averaged 30.8 points, 8.0 assists, 6.0 steals and 5.0 rebounds his final year. When Paul scored 61 points in one game as a high school senior, he did so in honor of his grandfather, who was tragically murdered days before. When Paul reached the 61-point mark (his grandfather was 61-years old), he intentionally missed a free throw, then took himself out of the game even though the state high school scoring record was well within reach. After his strong senior season, Paul was named to the 2003 McDonald’s High School All-American East Team, where he handed out 10 assists and was awarded the sportsmanship award. He was also named a 2003 Parade High School All-American and North Carolina’s Mr. Basketball by the Charlotte Observer. Chris decided to stay close to home and decided to play collegiate ball at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Chris continued to excel on the hardwood for the Demon Deacons and earned the ACC Rookie of the Year award, edging out current Chicago Bull Luol Deng. He was also named third team All-ACC after leading the team in assists (183) and steals (84) and several other categories. He was named the 2004-05 ACC Preseason Player of the Year and Associated Press Preseason National Player of the Year, and was a consensus first-team All-American in 2005. Paul decided to make himself eligible for the NBA draft after his sophomore year at Wake Forest.
