Shareef Abdur-Rahim Biography Shareef Abdur-Rahim biography Abdur-Rahim played basketball at Joseph Wheeler High School in Marietta where he was named as "Mr. Basketball" in back-to-back seasons. He attended college at the University of California, Berkeley for one year, after which he was selected by the NBA’s Vancouver Grizzlies with the 3rd pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. One of eight children of Aminah and William Abdur-Rahim, Shareef started his own foundation called Future Foundation which supports United Way and Boys and Girls Clubs. His first name, Shareef, means "noble" and his last name means "servant of the most merciful one." Called "Reef" by his friends and teammates, he enjoys movies and shooting pool in his spare time, and collects basketball jerseys.
