Stephon Marbury attended Abraham Lincoln HS in Brooklyn, NY. He was named High School Player of the Year by Parade magazine. In 1995 he teamed with current Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett on a USA Junior Select Team.

At Georgia Tech Stephon became only the fifth freshman in Atlantic Coast Conference history to be named to the all-conference first team. In the second round of the NCAA tournament he scored a career high 29 against Boston College. Marbury became the first freshman to lead Georgia Tech in scoring (18.9 ppg) since Mark Price in 1982-83. He was also a unanimous selection to ACC All-Tournament team after averaging 22 points and shooting 51 percent from field in three games. After one season at college, he entered the NBA

Stephon Marbury was selected by Milwaukee in the first round (4th overall) of the1996 draft. Draft rights traded by the Bucks to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the draft rights to Ray Allen and a first-round draft choice in 1999 or 2000 on 6/26/96. He lead the Wolves to their first playoff appearance and was named to the All-Rookie first team and was the runner-up in Rookie of the Year balloting while averaging 15.8 points per game and leading all NBA rookies with 7.8 assists per game. Stephon was also named NBA Rookie of the Month in January, when he averaged 16.9 points and 8.1 assists.
