Lil’ Wayne Drops Track in Honour of Kobe Bryant

Despite being a native of New Orleans, it appears as if Lil’ Wayne is backing the LA Lakers in this finals series. In addition to occupying a courtside seat for the drubbing of the Orlando Magic in the opening contest, he’s given a nod to the Black Mamba in the form of a typically sonically disturbing effort that barely qualifies as music. Still, the kids seem to love it, so perhaps it’s me missing the point and not the single-celled organisms that constitute Weezy’s fanbase. Give me some Tribe over that nonsense any day.

Anyway, if you’re so inclined, you can check out the video below for Lil’ Wayne’s homage to Kobe Bryant. Let us know what you think of the track by dropping a comment in the box below.

I agree with C.Y. Weezy’s just straight up-shit. He sounds like a bong rat and rhymes like my little cousin. Jeezy sounds like he’s strainin to take a turd everytime he raps, you know what I mean. Everyone else on that list sucks too, especially Souljah Boy. I honestly can’t express how much it p!sses me off that people like Weezy and Souljah Boy, they are just straight up shit. Very few rappers are original these days. I just say thank god for guys like Jay-Z, Nas and The Game, along with of course Dre. .

Well said CYE ... got to mention my personal favourite Pete Rock and CL Smooth ... ’The main ingredient’ is one of the most underappreciated albums in any musical genre! It’s a classic; an amazing work of art that fifteen years after being released is still brilliant and timeless! .

Most of my favourite hip-hop acts were popular at one point, and there are still a few dudes in the mainstream I can listen to. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the rappers in the charts these days are straight trash. Weezy, Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Flo Rida, Rick Ross and countless other club rats and ringtone rappers would never have been signed when hip-hop was still alive and well. Now it’s just watered-down, stereotype-enforcing, commercial bulls---that makes fans of the true school of rap embarrassed to be associated with this new take on the genre. I’ll wave the flag for Tribe, De La, Rakim, Dre, Dilla, J5, DOOM, Little Brother, Biggie, The Roots and dozens of others acts who actually made music, but I can’t argue for these rap-by-numbers dullwits who pollute the radio nowadays.

That’s why I salute Jay’s new track. Check out the video at the end of the article for an example of real, creative music that doesn’t rely on nursery rhymes and cheap audio gimmicks. If there were more stuff like this being released, kids wouldn’t think Lil’ Wayne et al. were the best the industry had to offer.

You know nothing about rap & hip hop. You are just one of those people who can’t allow anything to be popular. Weezy in the dedication 2 & drought 3 era was a beast. At least show a little respect. He’s trying new things, but no, lets just hate on him. .
