Will the Warriors Punish Monta Ellis? By C.Y. Ellis 09.26.2008 - Updated on 10.1.2008
| After weeks of speculation concerning Monta Ellis’ injury, the truth finally came out like that Clay fellow from the TV talent show. Young Monta, it transpires, wasn’t playing a simple game of pick-up when he ruined both his deltoid and the Warriors’ hopes this season. Rather, the Mississippi native was showing off on that marvel of engineering favoured by so many young millionaires: a moped.
Wait, what? A f*cking moped? He just signed a deal worth sixty-six million dollars and spent his first summer cruising around on the preferred mode of transportation for European teenagers and pizza delivery boys? That alone should be sufficient to make you question his judgement, and the fact that he attempted to cover himself with such a transparent lie further damaged his rep.
The question now is this: Can you punish stupidity? The Golden State Warriors are well within their rights to void the new contract on the grounds that Ellis violated the two-wheels-bad clause. Since they’ve indicated that they have no intention of doing that, however, the Bay waits with baited breath to see if the Warriors will let it slide or get tough and slap some sort of punishment on their combo guard.
Chris Mullin and the Golden State Warriors are still undecided as to whether they will fine guard Monta Ellis after Ellis was injured while riding a mo-ped, which he is contractually prohibited from doing, the Associated Press is reporting.
Ellis originally told the Warriors he was injured playing basketball.
"I don’t think anyone felt like it was the best-case scenario," Mullin said of Ellis’ shifting story. "There were some things that should have been done differently. I think he understands that. With all that said, now is the time for him to have our support. He did do something wrong and needs to be accountable for it, but I do think all the energy and effort goes into getting him healthy." - ESPN
So, what do you think Chris Mullin and Oakland’s front office should do? More importantly, what do you think they will do? Let us know what you think the appropriate course of action (or inaction) should be in the comment box at the bottom of the page. |

Posted by on 09.29.2008 | John Nguyen your a dumbass, please go learn basketball before you start writing. I guess HoopsVibe is a entry level website . | Posted by Franchise on 09.27.2008 | J.Nguyen, i did not say he would be better than he was projected to be man. All i said is that if the w’s try to void his contract, he most certainly would get 7-8 mill from a different team, something that the W’s prob wont give him. And ya monta will prob have to reinvent his game but remember, monta avg 20ppg without a 3 point shot. If he can develop a 3 pointer, he can probably make up for some of the weaknesses he will be bound to have concerning his ankle. I can see him avg 18-22ppg if he can develop a more rounded game. btw, if the W’s try to void his contract, im pretty sure monta will not go back there. Imagine a W’s team without monta, BD.... other than jackson, who will carry that load? magette? lol i think the W’s holding a team with magette as the potentially best player is more embarrasing long term than monta getting injured on a moped. . | Posted by J.Nguyen on 09.26.2008 | "Just Fine." It’s amusing that you say that when you didn’t add anything intelligent to the discussion. You just relied on other people’s thoughts. You’re a soul less sheep. Deal. Anyway, I don’t think the Warriors and Monta Ellis are thinking things are "just fine." Even with that said, they can still rework to a cheaper deal since he did violate his contract AND HE LIED. Riding a Moped? That was stupid. A Moped? Embarrassing. Ok. You still feel he’s worth 6/$66? Hell no. By the way, name one player who came back better from this? Do you understand the word "better?" He has to be better than 20.2PPG. This is a severe injury. Not some ankle sprain. Amare Stoudamire did not come back better. He’s trying to maintain near that 26.0 PPG form he had in 2004-2005 by reinventing his game by getting better at his jumpshot and free throws. Before his knees messed up, I projected Amare to be hitting 29 PPG, 11 rebs, 2.5 blocks for a few seasons. He’ll never reach that now. Monta has to do something similar and that’s to work on areas that he is weak on. Well he ever reach 23-25 PPG? There’s a chance but I’m not holding my breath; the odds are against him. He was on a great growth curve, but now it has to go back down. So I’ve added something new instead of relying on other people’s thoughts. Go play in the kiddy box now, kid. You’ll be JUST FINE. . | Posted by Just Fine on 09.26.2008 | Nguyen is stupid. "franchise and "tru warrier" have valid points. . | Posted by Franchise on 09.26.2008 | J.Nguyen, we all know what will happen if the warriors void his contract. He will most certainly sign with another team. I seriously do not think that the warriors can live with giving him up or even pissing him off especially at the talent level he has. If GS voids his contract and he gets back or close to his old form, GS will look like total idiots for letting him go. Next thing you know, monta is killing it on another team while the warriors franchise is ruined(losing BD and Monta from the team would be a disaster) point is that ya monta messed up but at least a fine could do. at the end of the day, if monta plays to an all star level on another team, the W’s will be the atlanta hawks of the west. . | Posted by J. Nguyen on 09.26.2008 | I say punish him. It’s embarrassing to the organization to sign him that deal. Void the contract and rework to cheaper deal. . | Posted by C.Y. Ellis on 09.26.2008 | In a little coincidence, I also wear number eight. I once managed to convince someone that one of my old jerseys was a Monta Ellis throwback from a season he played in England. That dude wasn’t too sharp. . | Posted by Tru Warrier on 09.26.2008 | Maybe you can take his place and wear his jersey until he gets better. Your last name should get you in the door. I am sure you couldn’t do any worse than what they have now. Plus you kinda look like white chocolate. But I also think the warriors are going to give him a hefty fine, maybe a dedcution of his salary for the time missed. I can’t imagine them voiding the whole contract, although that would make a great statement to players to wise up . |
