NBA Game Summary - LA Clippers at Cleveland

Cleveland, OH (Basketball News) - Donyell Marshall scored 13 points, including two three-pointers in overtime, as the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 112-105, at Quicken Loans Arena.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas tallied a season-high 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Cleveland, which snapped a two-game losing streak.

LeBron James added 28 points to go along with seven boards and nine assists, and Larry Hughes netted 23 points in the victory.

"It was real big," James said of the overtime win. "We didn’t want to go 0-3 in our last three games then hit the west coast so we did a great job of executing down the stretch."

Elton Brand scored a season-high 33 points and grabbed 13 boards, while Sam Cassell poured in 26 points and dished out 10 assists for the Clippers, who have lost three of their last four games.

Corey Maggette contributed 25 points before fouling out just over three minutes into overtime for the Clippers.

The fourth quarter had a playoff feel, as each team turned up the intensity. Maggette drilled a three-pointer from the right wing to close a 7-0 spurt that put the Clippers ahead 89-86 with 3:01 to go.

With just over 1:30 to play and the Clippers clinging to a 91-90 lead, Maggette drilled a straight-on jumper from just inside the arc.

Ilgauskas made two free throws, then after a Maggette miss, Clippers rookie James Singleton collected the loose ball and converted the layup to give Los Angeles a 95-92 lead with just over a minute left.

The Clippers went to a zone on the next possession, but failed to box out after Hughes misfired on a three-pointer. Marshall slid in along the left block, gathered the rebound in mid-air, and converted the follow-up while being hit on the arm by Singleton.

The subsequent free throw completed a three-point play to tie the game, 95-95.

Maggette was fouled while attempting to create a shot on the next possession and drained both free throws to put the Clippers back up by two.

Hughes was fouled on a give-and-go and drained both free throws to tie the game again, 97-97.

Brand missed a running hook shot as time expired and the game went to overtime.

"We had a shot to win it, and I could have had us out of here," Brand said. "It felt good but I missed it. We got the look and play that we wanted."

The hero of the extra session was Marshall, who drilled back-to-back treys to open a 103-99 lead about 1:30 into overtime. A James free throw and layup sandwiched a Brand jumper to keep Cleveland in front 106-101.

After two Cassell free throws made it a one-possession game, Hughes converted a slam dunk in the lane to push the lead to 108-103. Cuttino Mobley missed a trey on the other end, and the Cavs drained free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

The two teams played a tight opening 24 minutes. A first quarter that ended without a James’ field goal propelled Los Angeles to a 26-22 advantage. James got into a rhythm offensively in the second quarter with 12 points, as the Cavs outscored the Clippers 30-21 to take a 52-47 halftime lead.

The Clippers took a 74-71 advantage into the fourth quarter behind the play of Brand. The Duke product scored 12 points in the period, showing a full repertoire of offensive skills. Brand hit mid-range jumpers, scored from the block and took the ball near the top of the arc and dribbled straight down the lane for a layup.
