Memphis, TN (Basketball News) - Pau Gasol scored a career-high 39 points and also grabbed 10 boards as the Memphis Grizzlies came back from 14 down to beat the Washington Wizards, 108-98, at FedEx Forum.
Eddie Jones had 18 points, six rebounds and six assists and Shane Battier added 14 points and seven boards for the Grizzlies, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Gilbert Arenas netted 37 and Antawn Jamison chipped in 35 points for the Wizards, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
After trailing 50-36 with under two minutes left in the first half, the Grizzlies opened up the third period with a 9-2 run, capped by Chucky Atkins’ running layup, to narrow the gap to 54-50.
With the Wizards leading 61-54, Memphis reeled off a 14-6 spurt, highlighted by a trio of Jones free throws followed by a three, to take a 68-67 edge, the Grizzlies first lead of the game.
Memphis outscored Washington 38-22 in the third quarter and held a 79-74 lead heading into the final frame.
Jamison and Arenas regained the lead for the Wizards by combining to score all the points in a 10-3 run, to make the score 84-82.
Arenas’ jumper with 5:45 to play gave Washington a 92-90 advantage, but the Grizzlies countered with a 15-3 streak, including seven points from Gasol, to take the lead for good.
Memphis connected on 58.8 percent of its shots, while the Wizards shot 45.9 percent from the floor. The Grizzlies won the rebounding battle 38-24.
Washington led 32-23 after the first quarter and extended its lead to 52-41 at halftime.
