(Basketball News) - The Boston Celtics were defeated by the New Orleans Hornets, 81-73, on Wednesday at FleetCenter.

Paul Pierce scored 23 points for the Celtics, who have dropped two straight and three of their last four contests. Vin Baker netted 12 points in the setback.

Mike James posted 10 points, as Boston dropped to 9-21 in the last 30 meetings with the Hornets.

The Celtics’ next game is on Friday night in Philadelphia against the 76ers. Boston (5-6) is just one-half game behind the Sixers (6-6) for first place in the Atlantic Division.
