Cavaliers need to give LeBron some help

12.13.2005

(Basketball News) - The Cleveland Cavaliers have struggled of late, losing four of five games, but not because of LeBron James’ performance. The star forward averaged 35.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 6.0 apg over the five-game stretch.

In Sunday’s loss to Milwaukee, James tallied a season-high 52 points, but T.J. Ford tied a career-high with 24 points to lead five Milwaukee players in double figures and the Bucks downed the Cavaliers 111-106 at the Bradley Center.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 20 points but was the only other Cleveland player in double figures. The Bucks outrebounded the Cavs 41-28.

Cleveland has given up 106.8 ppg over the last five outings.

The Cavaliers will try to stem the tide on Tuesday as they begin a four-game homestand against the 3-16 Atlanta Hawks. The team will then host Denver, Miami and Utah. It will be the first meeting of the season between the Cavs and the four teams coming into the Quicken Loans Arena. Cleveland was 7-4 against the four teams last season, including 4-0 against Atlanta.

Despite its poor record, Atlanta pulled off a monumental victory on Saturday night defeating the defending champion San Antonio Spurs 94-84. Joe Johnson tallied 22 points to lead the way for the Hawks.

Ira Newble, who has been out with plantar fasciitis, took part in practice last Thursday and hopes to be in full practice this week, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He hopes to get back into game action within two weeks.
