Gooden, 23, was acquired by Cleveland from Orlando in July and averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds in 79 games for the Magic. He is currently averaging 13 points and an NBA preseason-best 11.2 boards per contest.
"In his short time here, Drew has been very productive on the court and quickly impressed us with his work ethic and dedication to becoming the best player he can be," Cavs president and general manager of basketball operations Jim Paxson said.
The fourth overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2002 draft, Gooden has averaged 12 points and 6.5 rebounds in 149 career games.
Gooden, a former Kansas star, was sent to Cleveland along with center Steven Hunter and the rights to forward Anderson Varejao. Forward/center Tony Battie and a pair of second-round draft picks were then dealt to Orlando.
"He has been a great fit for us and we expect him to continue to develop and grow," Paxson added.
