Garnett has to carry Timberwolves to postseason

02.27.2007

(Basketball News) - Minnesota will once again go only as far as All-Star forward Kevin Garnett can take them. The Timberwolves (26-30) are just one game behind the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets and Los Angeles Clippers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Garnett, who was a starter for the Western Conference in this year’s All- Star Game, leads the Timberwolves in scoring (22.7 ppg) and rebounding (12.8 rpg). He has scored in double-digits in all 55 games he has played in this season.

The 6-11 Garnett has scored more than 20 points in four straight games and has collected a double-double in all of the contests. Garnett is averaging 25.5 points and 15 rebounds per game in that span.

The NBA-best Dallas Mavericks try to extend their winning streak to 13 games when they face the Timberwolves on Tuesday at the Target Center. It is the third of four meetings between Dallas and Minnesota this season. Dallas won the two previous contests. The Mavericks are scheduled to host the Timberwolves on April 11th at American Airlines Center.

Dallas has lost three of its last five at Minnesota. The Mavericks have won three in a row in the series.

Minnesota plays the fourth of a five-game homestand. It is 1-2 so far on the current stand. Garnett scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the Timberwolves downed the Washington Wizards, 98-94, on Sunday at the Target Center.

Ricky Davis finished with 27 points for the Timberwolves, who snapped a three- game losing streak. Rookie Randy Foye scored 13 points and dished out eight assists for Minnesota, which beat Washington at home for the seventh consecutive time.

The Timberwolves are 17-11 at home this season. They will host the Utah Jazz on Friday in the finale of the homestand. Minnesota is 1-1 against the Jazz this season.

Minnesota will split its final 26 games during the regular season between the Target Center and the road.
