(Basketball News) - The Golden State Warriors fell to the Memphis Grizzlies, 115-113, in double-overtime on Monday in what was the second overtime game in as many days for both teams.
Erick Dampier finished with 23 points and 22 rebounds for Golden State — the second 20-20 game of his career. He added seven blocks for the Warriors, who squandered a 10-point second-half lead to lose for the eighth time in nine games.
Shane Battier had six points in the second overtime, including a bank-shot with 1:06 remaining that gave the Grizzlies a 110-108 lead. Golden State was unable to convert at the other end, and Stromile Swift drained a jumper with 18 seconds remaining to give Memphis a 112-108 advantage.
Golden State cut the deficit to 112-110 on Nick Van Exel’s layup with 15 ticks remaining, but Swift and James Posey each went 1-of-2 from the foul line to make it 114-110.
Posey’s free throw came after Swift blocked Brian Cardinal’s three-point attempt that would have tied the game.
A Jason Richardson layup got Golden State within 114-112, but Swift’s free throw left the Grizzlies with a 115-112 lead. Mike Dunleavy purposely missed one of his two free throws at the other end, hoping for a putback and the tie, but the attempt failed.
Golden State’s Cardinal had a career-high 13 rebounds, while Van Exel had 23 points, but shot just 9-of-25 from the floor.
The Warriors visit the Utah Jazz tonight. Earlier this season, Golden State, which has lost 17 straight at Utah, defeated the Jazz, 95-89, on November 7, 2003 at The Arena. The Warriors last win at Utah came on November 11, 1994.
