(Basketball News) - Washington pushed its record to 2-0 on Thursday night, downing the expansion Charlotte Bobcats, 103-96.
Antawn Jamison scored a game-high 24 points and Gilbert Arenas added 19 with eight assists in the winning effort. Jarvis Hayes chipped in with 17 points and Juan Dixon had 15 off the bench for the Wizards, who opened their season with a win in Memphis on Wednesday night.
The two road victories are good news for Washington, which was an NBA-worst 8-33 away from home last season.
The teams played close for most of the game, but the Wizards took control with a 7-0 run midway through the fourth quarter.
Hayes drained an 18-foot jumper just inside the 7:00 mark that gave Washington the lead for good at 87-85. Dixon followed with a three-point play moments later, Hayes hit another jumper and Jamison added a bucket to make it 92-85 with less than six minutes remaining.
Charlotte had chances to get back into the game, but a pair of turnovers in the final minute led to three free throws for Washington, which sealed the win.
Larry Hughes added 14 points for Washington in the win.
Washington has a day off before opening its home slate against Shaquille O’Neal and the Miami Heat on Saturday.
