Philadelphia 76ers Team Report - March 1

(Basketball News) - The shorthanded 76ers posted a stunning 81-74 upset of the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Wachovia Center on Sunday night.

Aaron McKie started in place of the injured Allen Iverson and scored 18 points to pace the Sixers to the win. For the second straight game, the Sixers played without Iverson and Glenn Robinson.

Iverson has missed the past four games with a shoulder injury and Robinson has been sidelined for two contests with an injured elbow. It is unknown when either player will return.

But several other players stepped up in this one to help the Sixers snap a four-game losing streak and win for the second time in seven games. Eric Snow scored 13 with seven assists, Kenny Thomas had 11 points and 12 rebounds and Kyle Korver and Willie Green scored 10 apiece off the bench.

Philadelphia committed a season-low nine turnovers.

The Sixers are 22-2 this season when leading with five minutes remaining.

Sixers forward Derrick Coleman, out since fracturing his finger on Jan. 23, participated in the pregame shootaround. Coleman and Marc Jackson (finger, foot) are still a few weeks away from returning to the lineup.

Philadelphia, which is just one game behind Miami for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, will attempt to build on its momentum heading into Wednesday’s game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The Sixers lost their first meeting with the Knicks, 99-88, at MSG on November 22. Philly has dropped three in a row to New York. However, the Sixers have won seven of 11 and eight of the last 13 meetings with the Knicks.
