Reeling Raptors not reveling in rut

03.3.2006

(Basketball News) - Winning has been extinct lately for the Toronto Raptors.

But with Tuesday’s hiring of Bryan Colangelo as the team’s president and general manager, Toronto’s version of Jurassic Park may not be too far behind.

Colangelo, the reigning Executive of the Year with the Phoenix Suns, left the organization with an overall record of 476-366 in 11 seasons. The Suns earned a 33-win turnaround last season thanks to the signing of MVP Steve Nash.

The move could either pay huge dividends or backfire in Toronto’s face, but the main concern is ending a current five-game losing streak.

In their last game against the Atlanta Hawks, Chris Bosh paced Toronto with 27 points and Charlie Villanueva had 23 points and 10 rebounds in a 113-111 overtime loss at the Air Canada Centre.

Toronto was without big man Antonio Davis, who missed the game with a strained back. He was fouled on a drive and fell hard in Monday’s loss at Miami.

Bosh has been the lone bright spot for the Raptors. He leads the team with 22.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.

The Raptors travel to New Jersey on Saturday for a showdown with the Nets at Continental Airlines Arena. Toronto has lost four straight on the road and is 2-7 in its last nine away from Air Canada Centre.
