NBA Game Summary - Charlotte at Denver

03.16.2005

Denver, CO (Basketball News) - Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points, DeMarr Johnson and Francisco Elson added 14 apiece, and the Denver Nuggets rolled to a 120-101 victory over Charlotte at the Pepsi Center.

Wesley Person and Eduardo Najera chipped in 13 points each for the Nuggets, who have won nine of 10.

Denver shot 54 percent for the game and led by as many as 28 points, rebounding nicely from the loss to Phoenix on Sunday that snapped their season-high eight-game winning streak.

Keith Bogans scored 19 points to lead the Bobcats, who have lost eight straight and 18 of their last 20 overall. Emeka Okafor added 17 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Anthony was 6-of-7 in the first half for 15 points, and the Nuggets carried a 62-47 lead into the break.

Denver opened the game with an 8-1 run and never trailed. The lead reached 12 at the end of the first quarter and was never less than six the rest of the way.

The Nuggets ended the half shooting 59 percent from the field, including 64 percent (7-of-11) from three-point range. Charlotte shot just 40 percent in the half and 44 percent for the game.

Denver’s lead was trimmed to nine points in the third quarter after Jason Kapono’s three-pointer got the Bobcats within 73-64, but that was as close at it got.

The Nuggets carried a 94-78 advantage into the fourth, and led by as many as 28 when a Person free throw made it 118-90 late in the fourth.

Denver was playing the second of a season-high seven game homestand...The Nuggets are 16-5 under the guidance of head coach George Karl, who became the team’s general on January 27th when he replaced interim head coach Michael Cooper...Denver was without forward Kenyon Martin (knee)...The Bobcats have lost 10 straight on the road.
