NBA Game Summary - Denver at New Jersey

East Rutherford, NJ (Basketball News) - Vince Carter poured in 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Jason Kidd added 15 points and 16 assists, as the New Jersey Nets defeated the Denver Nuggets, 115-106, in overtime at Continental Airlines Arena.

Richard Jefferson tallied 21 points and Nenad Kristic notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for New Jersey, which snapped a three-game losing streak.

Scott Padgett tallied a season-high 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc in the victory.

Andre Miller led the Nuggets with 22 points and 13 assists, while Carmelo Anthony scored all of his 20 points in the second half.

Earl Watson tallied a season-high 18 points, while DerMarr Johnson and Kenyon Martin each scored 16 for Denver, which has lost two straight games.

Jefferson’s three-point play started overtime as the Nets never trailed in the extra session.

Padgett’s fifth three-pointer gave New Jersey a 100-96 lead in overtime, then Kristic converted a layup to increase the advantage to six.

Miller buried a trey from the right wing to cut the lead to 104-101 about 1 1/2 minutes later, but Carter converted a three-point play and Kidd drained a three-pointer to put the game away.

Denver seemed to have the game in hand during the late stages of the fourth quarter, before Kidd’s heroics sent the game to overtime.

Anthony drained two free throws to tie the game at 87-87 with 2:41 to play, then he converted an easy slam to give Denver the lead.

The Syracuse product, who took over down the stretch with 11 straight points for Denver, sprinted backdoor and Miller tossed a lob pass that he emphatically slammed to give the Nuggets a 91-87 edge.

Kidd missed a trey on the other end and Anthony converted 1-of-2 from the charity stripe. Then, Padgett drained a three-pointer from the right wing to get New Jersey within 92-90.

After Watson missed a long jumper, Jefferson was fouled while going up for a layup. He made the first free throw, but missed the game-tying attempt.

Kidd fouled Miller, who calmly buried both free throws to extend the advantage to 94-91 with 20.1 seconds left.

On the Nets pivotal possession, two defenders swarmed to Carter and he found an open Kidd, who buried the game-tying trey with 11.3 seconds remaining.

Najera received a dish from Miller near the basket in the closing seconds, but his slam occurred after the buzzer.

New Jersey jumped out to a 22-4 advantage, as Carter converted a three-point play and buried two treys during the early spurt.

Denver slowly chipped away at the large deficit, finishing the period on a 16-7 run to get within 29-19.

A 15-6 run midway through the second frame gave Denver a 41-37 lead. Francisco Elson capped the scoring streak with a slam in lane, and the Nuggets took a 48-47 edge at the break.

Denver led 71-68 after three quarters.

New Jersey has won eight of the last nine meetings...Denver has lost six straight and 14 of its last 15 contests in New Jersey...The Nuggets close a six-game road trip in Atlanta on Sunday...Carter also dished out eight assists in the victory...Martin grabbed nine boards in defeat.
