New York, NY (Basketball News) - Jamal Crawford had 19 points, six rebounds and six assists to lead the New York Knicks to a 93-83 win over the Washington Wizards at Madison Square Garden.
Kurt Thomas, who sparked a 15-0 run that covered the final two quarters, added 15 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for the Knicks, who have captured five of their last six contests. Stephon Marbury added 14 points and 10 assists for New York, which has won seven in a row at home.
Larry Hughes’ 27 points led Washington, which has dropped two of three and seven of its last 10 contests. Gilbert Arenas added 23 points and eight rebounds for the Wizards, who have dropped seven of eight on the road.
Washington’s starting forward Antawn Jamison missed the game with tendinitis in his right knee, ending his streak of 386 consecutive games played.
The Knicks started to pull away towards the end of the third quarter. After a Steve Blake bucket drew the Wizards within 64-63 with 3 1/2 remaining in the third, New York ran off 15 straight points bridging the final two quarters to build a 79-63 cushion.
A pair of Marbury free throws made it a 71-63 game heading into the last 12 minutes and Thomas, who had eight points during the run, capped it with a basket three minutes into fourth.
Washington went seven minutes, 57 seconds without a point during the Knicks’ run, shooting 0-for-15.
The Wizards later drew within 79-70 after an Arenas three-point play midway through the stanza, but that would be as close as the team would get. New York later extended its margin to a double-digit lead and cruised to the finish.
New York, which led 26-21 after one quarter and 48-40 going into halftime, shot 40 percent from the field, including 9-of-20 from three. The team also went 20-of-22 from the free throw line.
Washington shot only 33 percent from the field, going 3-of-16 from behind the arc and 28-of-37 from the charity stripe.
