10.24.2005

New York, NY (Basketball News) - The Minnesota Lynx won the draft lottery and will have the top pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft, which will be held sometime in April.

Minnesota (14-20) had the third-best chance among the five eligible teams to win the lottery, with 167 chances out of a possible 1,000.

The Phoenix Mercury (16-18) will pick second and will be followed by the Charlotte Sting (6-28), who had the best odds of acquiring the first choice. The San Antonio Silver Stars (7-27) will select fourth, followed by the Washington Mystics (16-18).

The draft lottery established the order for the first round with the second and third rounds based on team records.

The Charlotte Sting selected University of Minnesota center Janel McCarville as the top pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft.
