Taurasi leads Mercury over Comets

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - Diana Taurasi scored 37 points to lead the Phoenix Mercury over the Houston Comets 111-85.

Taurasi hit 11-of-18 shots, including 6-of-9 from three for the Mercury, who improved to 2-1 this season. Cappie Pondexter added 22 points and Penny Taylor had 18 for Phoenix.

Tina Thompson had 32 points and nine rebounds for Houston, which is winless in two games this season. Ashley Shields scored 21 points for Houston, which led 50-47 at halftime.

However, the Mercury scored 22 of the first 31 points of the second half to open up a 69-59 cushion. The Comets never threatened after that.

Comets veteran Sheryl Swoopes was held to two points, hitting only 1-of-7 shots
