WNBA Capsules - Wednesday, July 12th

07.12.2006

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Katie Douglas wasn’t a part of the Eastern Conference’s six straight losses to the Western foes in the WNBA All-Star Game, and she still hasn’t lost after scoring 16 points in the East’s 98-82 victory at Madison Square Garden. Douglas, a shooting specialist for the Connecticut Sun, lived up to her reputation by draining 4-of-7 from beyond the arc in taking home the game’s MVP honors. Katie Smith scored 14 points off the bench, Cheryl Ford added 13 points and Lindsay Whalen donated 10 points and six assists in the victory. The East also kept a taller Western squad out of the paint and off the glass, taking a 50-45 rebounding edge, while holding stars Yolanda Griffith and Lauren Jackson to three and four rebounds, respectively. Seimone Augustus scored 16 points to lead the West. Dawn Staley had five points and seven rebounds, Sheryl Swoopes — last year’s All-Star MVP — collected six points and Lisa Leslie managed nine points and seven rebounds. All three players are a part of the WNBA’s All-Decade Team, announced in commemoration of the league’s 10th birthday.
