LeBron James Doesn’t Want Stephon Marbury On Cleveland Cavaliers

November 15 07

Remember when LeBron James was a shy teenager, who avoided the spotlight? After all, his former agents, the Goodwin brothers, used to keep him hidden from reporters.

The cloak-and-dagger approach ended when James let the Goodwins go and hired three friends to manage his business empire. Over the last few years, he’s become more of a public figure, acting in commercials and singing on award shows.

Lately, he’s been holding court with reporters like a franchise star should. On Wednesday, James made a strong anti-Marbury statement, ending any interest Cleveland would have in the controversial point guard.

’I couldn’t have a guy like that (Marbury) on my team,’’ James told Bob Finnan of the Morning Journal.

The superstar made these comments for both personal and professional reasons. James and Marbury don’t like each other. Last summer, they exchanged insults about each other’s signature sneaker. And the two avoid each other in public.

Fair or not, James also believes Marbury would upset the Cavaliers’ chemistry. Starbury created problems in Minnesota, New Jersey, Phoenix, and New York, so why would Cleveland be different?

I appreciate James stepping-up and speaking his mind. He probably watched Tim Duncan lead San Antonio in last year’s NBA Finals and wants to establish the same professional environment in Cleveland.

Marbury, walking out on the Knicks and threatening to blackmail Isiah Thomas, is anything but professional.

Bron should be the last person talking since his own team has ego issues of their own. People pa-------judgement on steph but we dont really kno whats goin on behind closed doors in the knicks locker room. Steph was right...ISIAH HAS TO START HIM. Isiah’s on thin ice anyway and the last thing he needs is for his star player, who is makin 42 mill ova the next 2 seasons to b unhappy .

I agree with four corner, even if his comments are somewhat unclear, the Cavs don’t need drama, but they do need help. Marbury wouldn’t work, out .

The Cavs need no extra farsical drama ’cause they’ve already faced enough grief for the season. Yet, they could indeed use a quickster who is capable of keeping up with A.Iverson type of point guards defensively nigh in and night out and ideally of dishing out plenty of dimes with a good sense of how the game should be played with at least 5 persons on the floor. The point is that to take another step forward the Cavs cannot dispense with the addition of someone solid enogh to free up Lebron from the point duty, which will bring more creativity as well as diversity on the offensive end. Not a chance for a man in his own bubble. .
