San Antonio, TX (Basketball News) - Tony Parker scored 21 points, Tim Duncan had 18 with 11 rebounds, and the San Antonio Spurs clinched their first round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets with a 99-89 victory in Game 5 on Wednesday night.
The Spurs won four straight in this best-of-seven series after losing Game 1 at home. They advanced to face the Seattle SuperSonics in the Western Conference semifinals.
Manu Ginobili also scored 18 points and Robert Horry added 17 for the Spurs, who gained control of the game with a 21-8 run that bridged the third and fourth quarters.
Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points to lead the Nuggets, who haven’t won a playoff series since 1994 when they beat Seattle in the opening round. Andre Miller added 16 points in the loss, while Earl Boykins and Kenyon Martin scored 14 apiece.
