Chapel Hill, NC (Basketball News) - Monique Currie, one of four players to score in double figures, registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five assists and three steals in leading the Duke Blue Devils to a commanding 80-48 victory over the Canisius Golden Griffins in the first round of the NCAA Tournament from the Smith Center. Mistie Williams added a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds, while Chante Black came off the bench to offer up 12 points and 11 boards in the victory as well for Duke (29-4), the second seed in the region. Canisius (21-10), the 15th seed, failed to have a single player score in double figures on the afternoon, with Becky Zak coming closest with nine points, shooting 2-of-3 from behind the three- point line but just 3-of-9 from the floor overall. Canisius shot only 25.4 percent from the game and was 5-of-23 beyond the arc, as Cheri Wittlieb knocked down only two of her 11 long-distance chances. With the win Duke moves on to face the winner of the Houston/Boston College matchup in the second round on Tuesday.

Storrs, CT (Basketball News) - Candice Dupree posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds in leading the Temple Owls to a 66-61 win over the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters in the first round of the NCAA Tournament from Gampel Pavilion this afternoon. Dupree scored 16 points in the second half alone and added four assists, four blocked shots and three steals in the victory for Temple (28-3), the sixth seed in the region and the owner of the longest winning streak in all of college basketball at 25 in a row. Also scoring in double figures for the Owls were Kamesha Hairston (15 points, seven rebounds), Ari Moore (11 points) and Khadija Bowens 13 points off the bench in 26 minutes of action. The Lady Techsters (20-10) were paced by Tasha Crain with 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field for the 11th seed, while Erica Taylor recorded 13 points on just 5-of-14 from the floor before fouling out. Temple won the game at the foul line where it outscored LaTech 20-8 on the day. The Owls now await the winner of the Hartford/Rutgers contest for their second-round matchup on Tuesday.
College Park, MD (Basketball News) - Jessica Davenport posted 23 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots in leading the Ohio State Buckeyes to a commanding 86-45 win over Holy Cross in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Comcast Center. Brandie Hoskins added 14 points and a game-high eight assists for the second-seeded Buckeyes (29-4), while Caity Matter knocked down both of her three-point attempts and tallied 12 points in the victory as well. The Crusaders (20-11) were led by Lisa Andrews as the only player in double figures for the 15th seed with 13, shooting just 6-of-18 from the field. Holy Cross was held to just 29.1 percent shooting from the field for the game, turned the ball over 15 times and was beaten on the glass 46-31. OSU had just eight miscues on the day and shot an impressive 53.1 percent from the field. With the victory the Buckeyes will now face off against the winner of the Wisconsin-Green Bay/Maryland contest in the second round of the tournament on Tuesday.
