(Basketball News) - The Boston Celtics were surprised by the Chicago Bulls, 89-82, Wednesday at FleetCenter.
Mike James scored a career-high 18 points for Boston, which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Paul Pierce had 14 points and eight assists in the loss.
The Bulls carried a two-point lead into the final stanza, but increased their advantage with an 11-2 burst to begin the fourth quarter. Scottie Pippen buried a three-pointer to ignite the run and Jamal Crawford’s three capped it to give Chicago a 76-65 lead with 9:28 remaining.
Boston responded with a 13-4 run capped by James’ sixth three-pointer of the contest to get within two, 80-78, with 4:12 to play. The Bulls, however, put the game away by scoring nine of the final 11 points in the game.
The Celtics were 8-of-27 from three-point range.
Boston is off until Friday when it hosts rookie sensation LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
