Brown, Knicks host Iverson, Sixers

11.26.2005

(Basketball News) - Atlantic Division rivals meet this afternoon when the New York Knicks welcome the Philadelphia 76ers to Madison Square Garden.

This is the first time that Larry Brown, who was the head coach of the 76ers for six seasons, meets his former club as the general of the Knicks. Brown spent the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons guiding the Detroit Pistons to back-to- back appearances in the NBA Finals, including one championship.

The Sixers, who are in first place in the Atlantic, closeout a brief two-game road trip. On Wednesday, Michael Redd had 32 points, nine rebounds and seven assists to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 108-97 come-from-behind win over the 76ers at the Bradley Center.

All-Star Allen Iverson poured in a season-high 45 points on 13-of-30 shooting in the loss to Milwaukee for the Sixers, who have lost three of their last four games overall. Chris Webber, Steven Hunter and John Salmons all contributed 11 points in the setback.

Philadelphia is 2-3 on the road this season. After tonight’s game, the Sixers return to the Wachovia Center on Tuesday to host the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Knicks will try and bounce back from a tough loss. On Wednesday, Gerald Wallace finished with a game-high 24 points and Kareem Rush netted 22 to lead the Charlotte Bobcats to a 108-95 win over New York in front of their home crowd.

Stephon Marbury paced the Knicks with 21 points, eight assists and five rebounds in the loss to Charlotte. Jackie Butler had 13 points off the bench and rookie Channing Frye chipped in 12 for New York, which has lost three of its last four games overall.

On the injury front, New York center Eddy Curry (calf) is questionable for today’s game. The 22-year-old Curry did not play against the Bobcats because of the injury.

New York is 1-2 at home this season. The Knicks go back on the road on Sunday as they will visit the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena.

The Knicks have won four of the last five meetings in this series. Philadelphia has lost five straight after winning its last two at Madison Square Garden.
