Houston, Milwaukee complete deal

02.24.2005

Houston, TX (Basketball News) - The Houston Rockets acquired guard Mike James from the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday for fellow guard Reece Gaines.

According to the Houston Chronicle, to make the deal work financially, the Rockets also sent their trade exception to Milwaukee for center Zendon Hamilton, whom they will release.

The paper also stated that the Rockets will now likely place guard Bob Sura on the injured list with a sore back and waive Rod Strickland, who started Houston’s last two games.

James, who had been coveted all season by Houston, gives the Rockets depth at the guard position and relieves Milwaukee of the $7.1 million remaining on his contract.

In 47 games this season for the Bucks, the 30-year-old James averaged 11.4 points and 3.9 assists.

Gaines, meanwhile, has been on the injured list since January 16 with left patella tendinitis. He has appeared in just 10 games for the Rockets this season and is averaging 2.6 points-per-game.
