The New York Daily News reported that the Knicks will now try and work a sign- and-trade deal with Seattle in the time leading up to the 22nd, so they could use their mid-level exception on Memphis free agent Stromile Swift.
Seattle, though, is also in the hunt for Swift, thus making any deal with New York unlikely.
James started a career-high 80 games last season for the SuperSonics and averaged 4.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.39 blocks. James, though, played well in the postseason and scored 17.2 points, while grabbing 9.4 boards a game in Seattle’s first-round win over Sacramento.
For his career, the 29-year-old 7-footer has scored 4.9 points with 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 268 games with the Sonics and Kings, who picked him in the second round of the 1998 draft.
