McGrady landed awkwardly following a dunk, compounding a list of injuries he’s had to endure since the start of training camp. He didn’t play in Houston’s last two preseason games due to tendinitis in both knees. He then bruised his knee after colliding with a teammate during a workout before Wednesday’s season opener.
McGrady had 23 points and five rebounds in a season-opening 98-89 win over Sacramento, but he didn’t join the Rockets for Saturday night’s home game against the Hornets.
Last season, McGrady’s first in Houston, he averaged 25.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. David Wesley replaced the five-time All-Star in the lineup for Saturday night’s game.
