Nash wins in Dallas again - this time as a visitor

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - Amare Stoudemire poured in 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Phoenix over Dallas, 107-101, at AmericanAirlines Center.

In his first return to Dallas after playing seven years for the Mavericks, Steve Nash tallied 17 points and 18 assists for the Suns, who snapped a brief two-game losing streak.

Coming into the game, Phoenix had lost seven straight and 10 of its last 11 at Dallas, but walked off the court with its first road win versus the Mavericks since January 13, 2001.

Jerry Stackhouse netted 21 points off the bench for the Mavericks, who fell for the first time in four games and only the second time in nine games this season. Dirk Nowitzki posted 20 points and 16 boards in the team’s first road defeat of the season.

The Mavericks also lost two players to injuries. Center Erick Dampier left with a strained hip and guard Jason Terry suffered a sprained ankle.

In a contest which featured 17 ties and 17 lead changes, the Suns took the lead for good about midway through the fourth quarter. With 6:22 remaining, Stoudemire scored a bucket to give the Suns a 91-90 lead and they led the rest of the way.

Phoenix was up by just two with 3:26 left to play, but then the Suns responded with eight unanswered points to secure the victory. Fittingly, Nash capped off the burst on a pair of free throws with just over a minute to play, giving his new team a 105-95 advantage.

The Suns turned the ball over 20 times, but outshot the Mavs 48 percent to 41 percent and also won the battle on the glass, 54-44.

The Mavericks led 24-22 after a tight first quarter in which no team led by more than four points.

But the Suns erupted for 32-second quarter points to take a 54-43 lead into the intermission, before the teams were deadlocked at 77-77 going into the final 12 minutes.
